Color Photography ~ An Homage to Ari Aster

Color Photography Assignment ~
As a fan of American film Director Ari Aster, his work has inspired many of my films, which is my primary medium. However, last year, a friend and I had done a photoshoot combining the infamous crown scene from Hereditary with the artistic style of Wes Anderson. I was inspired by our original photoshoot to re-create the crown with a pop of color to match the bloody nose from the movie.
In order to capture the vibrance from the red crown, I decided to create a DIY spotlight to add focus to the color. I also used a Scott Pilgrim DVD I had in my home to tell the story of a film kid, which ultimately inspired this shoot. The original photos are captured with very warm lighting, but I decided to add blue contrast to further help the red pop and stand out on its own. That's also why I decided to wear white and stand behind a white backdrop. The blue tint is slightly inspired by the movie 'Fight Club', another homage to the story of a film fanatic. These photos were shot on a Canon D600 using the ten second self timer, and an IPhone with a DIY tube to create the spotlight.
